Chascomús is in Buenos Aires province, on the largest of the seven lagoons of the Encadenadas system: about 3,044 hectares, according to the municipal tourism site. It is pejerrey (silverside) fishing on a shallow lagoon, a day trip from the city and very different from the river fishing of the Litoral: here the rules are the Province of Buenos Aires’s, with an annual closed season and a minimum size, and what changes the trip most is the wind.
Sport fishing licence
Anyone fishing in Buenos Aires province waters needs a sport fishing licence (checked 27/10/2026), set by article 21 of Decree 3237/95, which regulates Law 11.477. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development’s site:
- Children under 14 must also get one: it is free.
- Retirees get it by showing their retirement card, free and with no expiry.
- Anyone without a pension who is over 65 (men) or 60 (women) and proves residence in Buenos Aires province is entitled to a licence with the same terms as a retiree’s (Resolution 46/05).
- For information and the procedure: Dirección Provincial de Pesca, calle 51 corner 12, Torre I, 8th floor, phone +54 221 429-5315, and the instructions on the Ministry’s site.
The price of the paid licences is not on that page or in the decree: we cannot confirm it. Check the Ministry’s site before you go.
Minimum size for pejerrey: 25 cm
The Buenos Aires Ministry of Agrarian Development states, on its official measuring ruler (outreach material, checked 27/10/2026), a minimum catch size of 25 cm for pejerrey, a native species. Measure the fish before deciding to keep it: anything shorter goes back in the water.
Annual pejerrey closed season: 1 September to 30 November
According to the Ministry’s closed seasons page (checked 27/10/2026), the pejerrey closed season runs from 1 September to 30 November across the whole province (Disposición 89/08, renewed automatically). During that period:
- Sport competitions related to pejerrey and commercial fishing in inland waters are prohibited.
- Sport and recreational pejerrey fishing is allowed only on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, within the per-angler daily limit (on some lagoons, such as Chasicó, Cochicó and del Monte, Fridays too).
- Powerboating is prohibited and boats with an internal-combustion outboard may travel at a maximum of 15 km/h.
- Maximum of 10 pieces per angler per day at Chascomús (group “the rest of the Buenos Aires lagoons”).
During the closed season the page sets the daily per-angler limit lagoon by lagoon. Chascomús has no limit of its own: it falls under “the rest of the Buenos Aires lagoons”, at 10 pieces per angler per day. Confirm it on the official page before you go, because orders change.
Where to fish: the lagoon and its access points
According to the Chascomús tourism site, the lagoon is one of those chosen for sport fishing and water sports, and has a ring road of about 30 km. The fishermen’s pier and viewpoint is in the central part of the waterfront, run by the municipality.
- Fishing from the bank: the fishermen’s pier and the waterfront, in the central area. We found no published charge for using them; confirm with the tourism office.
- Bringing your own boat: the municipality asks that boats be launched and recovered only at the enabled boat ramps, that you respect the areas marked with buoys and sail at an adequate speed (municipal note of 6/1/2026). Which ramps those are, what they cost and which requirements apply to sailing (registration, insurance, speed): we cannot confirm it.
- Renting a boat: the municipal tourism site mentions boat rental for recreation or sport fishing, without saying who offers it, nor the price or conditions.
- Boat storage and clubs: there are private boat storage yards and clubs along the waterfront; their rates are not published and some clubs keep their boats for members.
- Municipal fee: we could not confirm whether a fee is charged for entering or launching with a boat, or its amount.
- Parking and accessibility at each access point: we cannot confirm it.
To confirm the enabled ramps, costs, requirements and rental, call the Chascomús Tourism Office: (2241) 603414 o (2241) 430405, or ask your guide before bringing your own boat.
The wind decides

How to choose a guide: what to ask before booking
- Style: does the guide fish bait, spinning/baitcasting or fly? Pick one who specialises in what you want to do.
- Boat and gear: what boat, how many anglers it takes, which engine (horsepower, bow electric motor)? Casting platform, fish finder? Is tackle provided?
- What is included: bait, meals, fuel, lodging, transfers. Get it in writing, with the price.
- Timing rules: the month decides the fishing. Ask what works on your dates, at what river level and water temperature.
- The place: where the lodging is, boat ramp, distance to the fishing areas and the overall setting.
- References: photos of recent trips and anglers who have been. If you can, talk to the owner or operator.
